Free Crochet Patterns
I’m sorry I’ve been MIA for several days on here but winter storm fronts have initiated a migraine that lasted days and days. When the front finally passed through, I began to feel better but yesterday things kicked up again. I have a really hard time writing when I’m in the middle of a nauseous migraine.
And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise: migraine is not all in your head, it involves the entire body!
Without going into too much detail, my migraines have everything to do with living at a high elevation plus falling barometric pressure. The combination is lethal to my bod or, as my doctor says, “your body has never learned to adjust to living at high altitude.” I’ve tried many Rx meds to try to get a handle on this but am stuck having to rely on OTC meds such as Excedrin and Aleve.
Okay, so much for that.

Eco-cloths
SWEET SATURDAY
Here’s the result of mixing my love of crocheting with my love of pink things. Sweet, huh? I’ve decided to call them “eco-cloths” because they save $$$ and don’t clutter up the landfill like paper towels.
These are the newest dishcloths I made last week but I have probably made 3 dozen in various sizes and shapes over the last few years. I use these cloths for everything from washing the counters and sink to mopping up spills or using as a hot mat/trivet.
As a result I probably purchase maybe two—yes, you read it correctly, 2—rolls of paper towels per year. I just don’t see the need to waste all those paper towels when I can easily wipe up spills with my homemade eco-cloths. Exceptions to this are nasty, goopy spills such as molasses or syrup. Then I wipe up as much as I can with paper towels and finish up with a wet cloth and spray cleaner. As for doggy accidents, we just won’t go there.
I know not everyone can crochet or knit but you could easily re-purpose old towels for cleaning tasks by cutting them up and storing them under the kitchen and bathroom sinks. As for my old towels, I’ve given them over to Rick. He uses them in his man-cave garage for automotive and mechanical tasks.
Oh! Another huge advantage of these eco-cloths is the nubby texture, which is perfect for scrubbing areas like refrigerator door handles or around light switches. So, good-bye magic cleaning “erasers”!
Cream Soup Mix
I found a great recipe for a homemade cream soup or sauce mix while browsing The Dollar Stretcher, one of my favorite frugal sites on Facebook.
Since I use cream soups a lot for crock pot cooking—and I’m always looking for ways to save $$$—I love this recipe! And in case you’re interested, you can find even more $$$ saving homemade mix recipes from their readers here.
Soup or Sauce Mix
Yield: Equal to 9 cans of cream soup
2 cups powdered non-fat dry milk
3/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup instant chicken bouillon
2 Tbs. dried onion flakes
2 tsp. Italian Seasoning
Combine all ingredients in a re-closeable plastic bag, mixing well. Store in the closed plastic bag or an air-tight container until ready to use. It does not have to be refrigerated.
To substitute for 1 can of cream soup:
Combine 1/3 cup of dry mix with 1-1/4 cups of cold water. Cook and stir on stove top or in microwave until thickened.
[You can add whatever veggies or meat desired. If making chicken or beef flavored, add the particular bouillon flavor after the microwaving.]
Add thickened mixture to casseroles as you would a can of soup.

TREASURE TUESDAY
This verse was given to me during a very difficult time years ago as an encouragement. I was told that even though I felt great discouragement over the situation, the people around me instead saw my faith. And that faith is what kept me going when others around me wanted to just give up.
All glory, praise and honor goes to my Lord Jesus Christ, who kept me going and instilled that strong faith in me! I never, ever could have done it in my own strength!
