Mother’s Day Blessings

This is a repost of last Mother’s Day message. Enjoy!

mothers_day

This is for all of you Moms out there and for all of us whose Moms have already left this world.

The Lord took my Mom home six years ago but this is how I often remember her:

geraniums-in-a-flower-box-laurel-talabere

When I was growing up, one of the houses we lived in had built-in brick planters that bordered the front porch. Every year Mom would plant bright red geraniums in those planters—just like the ones in this photo. They made the entrance to our home look so pretty! I wish I had a photo of her standing next to those gorgeous geraniums but I guess that doesn’t matter because I’ll always have the memories in my mind and in my heart.

Beloved, whether your Mom is still here with you or dancing in heaven, what memory is your favorite about her?

I love and miss you Mom!

2014 Update: In Mom’s honor, I decided to continue her geranium tradition. I bought a gorgeous red geranium plant the other day and will be buying more in the next couple of weeks. I can’t wait to see them all in bloom!

God is Able

2Cor9-8

Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly,
and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart,
not grudgingly or under compulsion,
for God loves a cheerful giver.

And God is able to make all grace abound to you,
so that always having all sufficiency in everything,
you may have an abundance for every good deed;

as it is written,

He scattered abroad, he gave to the poor,
His righteousness endures forever.”
—2 Corinthians 9:6-9

A Bit of Pinkness

FridayLove
I realized the other day that I haven’t shared any pinkness with you lately, so today’s the day! I love this little Teddy bear with the pretty tulips, but I have an even better tulip image for you.

MoreTulips
Aren’t they gorgeous? When we round the corner from February to March, I always start thinking about tulips. Even though they don’t have an aroma, they are still my favorite flowers. Something about them makes me feel hopeful!

What about you, Beloved? What is your favorite flower?

Crochet Tidbits

tidbit tuesdayToday I want to share some photos of some recent crochet projects.

Crock Pot Carrier

Isn’t this an odd-looking thing? The inspiration came from a pattern to make a carrier for a covered casserole. I tweaked it a bit so that it would fit my little crock pot. My Rick came up with the idea to include an extra set of handles to keep the lid in place. Isn’t he clever?

I tried it out recently and am very happy to say that it worked out just the way I planned. These small crock pots are different from the large ones because the outer shell does not have the carrying handles; the crock itself does. And boy howdy do those handles get hot! It is very difficult to carry the thing when it is hot, which is why I was going to look online for something to buy but not necessary because I really ♥ the way this turned out!

I used cotton yarn and made the bottom quadruple thick, meaning I made 2 circles for the bottom using 2 strands of the yarn for each circle. It is very thick and very sturdy.

Gift Bags

This is an ongoing project that I am absolutely crazy about! I take horrible pics, so please forgive the obvious amateur look of these. The ongoing part of it? I am going to keep on making these cute gift bags to use instead of paper whenever possible!

Tartan Plaid!

HolidayTartanAfghan-PatternPhoto

This last one is a pattern photo for an afghan I am making for myself. I HEART plaid, especially this particular tartan. It is called a Holiday Tartan Afghan, and as soon as I saw it, I knew I had to make it for me! And forget about displaying and using it only during the Christmas season, this gal is going to have it out and ready to use every day!

It will take me the better part of this year to make it, though, because I’m working on it in between other projects, including more wheelchair lapghans (some with matching bags to secure to one of the arms) and a couple of Christmas projects for some very special people for Christmas 2014.

Fireproof [repost]

I am trying to get back into posting more regularly but life keeps getting in my way. The past couple of weeks haven’t been very good for me, so in an effort to get more consistent, I’m going back to posting things by days of the week. Since today is Tuesday, here’s my Tidbit Tuesday blast from the past. The message is just as relevant today as it was last year!

Tidbit Tuesday

FireproofMovie

When the movie “Fireproof” first came out in 2008, I wanted to see it because my son is a firefighter. Simple, huh?

Actually, not so much. Seeing this movie greatly impacted Rick’s and my marriage and we decided to buy the DVD as well as the “Fireproof Your Marriage” Couple’s Kit Bible study. And I also bought the paperback Fireproof to read. If I like something a lot, I want to know as much as I can about it! That’s how I roll.

Our 10-year anniversary was in 2008 so we decided to have a private ceremony—just Rick and me—in which we renewed our covenant vows and exchanged new, matching wedding bands that have three etched crosses on them. Now, please understand that our marriage was not in peril but seeing this movie reinforced in both of us the need to tend to our relationship in a new, special way. Every. Single. Day.

It is so easy to let things slide in order to avoid conflict, but that just causes the little things to pile up into a huge mountain and then watch out! Here’s where a full-on blow-up can happen. One of the things we have learned is to let go of what doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things and yet make sure we talk over what does make a difference in our marriage. We make sure to be constantly and consistently vigilant to not let the embers of our love die out because of something we said or didn’t say. Or did or didn’t do.

I shared that I would be writing about “enough” this year, but let me clearly state that our marriages are not to be taken for granted. We need to nurture our marriages and our marriage partners every day. This is a case where “enough” is NOT enough!

Here’s a video trailer of “Fireproof” to whet your appetite in case you haven’t seen it. And if you have seen it, I’d like to challenge you to watch it again with a new frame of mind for how much more your marriage can be… even if—as was the case for Rick and me—you think your marriage is already the best it can be.

Another Born Day Celebration [repost from 2012]

Today is my Honey’s birthday. Yep, the day after mine!  We met online 14 years ago because our back-to-back birthdays were a super coincidence that I couldn’t ignore. Plus it was a great way to start a conversation with Rick.

And here we are, all these years later, still celebrating that God-incidence that placed us together.

So, Rick, if you’re reading this…

HAPPY BORN DAY!

Love always from your…

Thankful for my Home

Psalm 118_24_Fall-ThisIsTheDay

Rick and I absolutely love where we live in northern Arizona. Although I do miss the vivid autumn oranges and reds of where I grew up in New England, I have lived in several states in my adult life and I have to say that this area amid the mountains and hills is my second favorite place.

Arizona has more than its share of sunshine and gorgeous sunsets, and we totally appreciate both. Neither of us are big-city people so living in a rural area such as this fits us well, and I love the fact that we’re not that far from my children who live in the Phoenix area.

Rick and I are very thankful to God for moving us here. In spite of some setbacks that might have tested our faith if we hadn’t fully trusted God, we’ve been living here for 9 years. You can read more here about that story.

This is the day which the Lord has made;
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

You are my God, and I give thanks to You;
You are my God, I extol You.

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.

—Psalm 118:24, 28-29

Thankful for My Children

Eph1-19-23-thankgodforyou

…..

Can I just say that I have the greatest children? Kathy and Alan—as well as my daughter-in-love, Denise—are such big blessings in my life and I truly do thank God for them every single day.

Last year I shared a bit about each of my children and how special they are to me, which you can read here. I am thankful that they are all walking with the Lord and seeking to follow His will in their lives.

Here I am with them at Alan and Denise’s wedding in 2010:

MyChildren

Left to Right: Kathy, Denise, Alan, me

Kathy, Alan and Denise, if you’re reading this, I love you all so much!

For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints, do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him.

Take a Break – Part 2

I know I’ve been quiet for a couple of weeks but I haven’t fallen off the face of the earth. Without going into a lot of detail, I’ve been sidelined in a major way by a flareup of my CFIDS in addition to the extremely nauseous migraines that are part and parcel of my monsoon summers.

You know how life just kind of happens? Well, this summer has served to knock me for a loop, to the point where I’ve been sleeping a lot.

I’m sorry I haven’t answered your comments on my blog but you don’t know how blessed I have been knowing that you have taken the time to visit here and leave me a sweet note.

This summer has not been very easy on me but God is still in control and my one true Hope… as He is yours, Beloved. Here is my prayer for all of us:

Rom15-13

As I said last time: Stay tuned, Beloved … I’ll be back before you know it!

Take a Break!

I will—no, I need—to take a break from blogging for a week or two. Life has been happening for me a lot here lately and that will continue this week as I am blessed with visits from both of my children. I am so looking forward to spending some time with these two wonderful people! I often wonder how they turned out so great, because I made so many mistakes while they were growing up.

Anyway, there comes the time when I need to just cut back on my activities for awhile, so after they leave I’ll need some quiet time to just be. Please keep me in prayer as I rest as much as possible and try to cope with the daily monsoon activity which is heaping loads of migraine nausea on me.

Matthew 11.28

Stay tuned, Beloved … I’ll be back before you know it!
