Changing Things Up

ChangingThingsUp--AMP

A couple of months ago I wrote this post about having to scale back and only post here three times a week because of my health issues. And my nemesis—aka our monsoon season —is back again, so you’d think I’d have to take a complete break for a couple of months since I always feel worse during these times.

So how come I’ve increased the frequency of my posting to almost every day?

I am so thankful to find many, many great articles and posts from other sites and blogs that I can share with you! It is a slight change in direction for this blog but is still in line with my vision for it:

  • how God is working in our lives no matter what else is going on
  • how to live a joyful and hopeful life with the Lord at the helm
  • learning to recognize the many blessings in our lives and be thankful for them

Having said all that, if I miss a day or two (or more), it’s probably because I didn’t feel well enough to work up and schedule some posts ahead of time. I’ll do my best to stay current here while I also fit in my writing assignments for the other blogs to which I contribute.

Remember: Thanks living always leads to thanks giving!

Very Inspiring Blog Award

Recently I was nominated for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award by Hope Turner of To Peace from Despair. Thank you so much, Hope!

My health issues mean I have very limited time to keep up with my blog plus the other sites to which I contribute, so I can only follow award rule #1. However, you can read a little of what this is all about below.

Again, thank you Hope. May your days be filled with God’s blessings!

The Very Inspiring Blogger Award

I thank them all for the impact they have made on my life and many others. I encourage everyone to visit them! Their nominations are well deserved!  Hugs, Hope

Welcome Patricia Knight!

If you’ve been around this blog for awhile, you’ll recognize the name Patricia Knight because she has graciously allowed me to share some of her devotionals here from time to time. Now Pat has agreed to contribute to my blog on a monthly basis, so it seemed appropriate to tell you a little bit about her.

As I’ve shared here before, I consider Pat to be one of my Christian mentors. She is my far-away friend whom I met online in 2003 when we were both writing devotionals for the same online chronic illness ministry. Although Pat and I have never met in person, we share such a strong love for the Lord that our bond of friendship has strengthened immeasurably over the years.

Pat and I have spoken by phone a few times but our daily lives don’t mesh well enough to make it possible very often. We live on opposite sides of the country so there is that 2-3 hour time difference. We also each endure chronic pain illnesses so our awake times are very different. Even though Pat lives with extreme pain most of the time, her constant encouragement and thoroughly trusting dependence on the Lord have shown me how to live joyfully no matter how I feel. As she wrote on a card she sent me recently:

As iron sharpens iron so one woman sharpens another.
—Proverbs 27:17

In this case, I like her use of “woman” instead of “person” as the passage was originally written. Yes, she and I do sharpen each other to keep us grounded in our faith.

Pat is the author of REJOICE! and PURE JOY, two books filled with joyful devotionals. Besides having written encouraging devotionals for an online chronic illness ministry, she currently maintains a ministry of handwritten encouraging notes for those who are hurting. I have been blessed many times over the years with one of Pat’s beautiful notes!

Pat, I’m so thankful for the blessing of you in my life!

Happy 3 Year Blogiversary!

Happy3YearBlogiversary

Yes, believe it or not, this is the third anniversary of my blog. Three years ago today I started out with the idea of sharing my faith, realizing that I was just one of the many bloggers out there doing so, yet I felt compelled to start this journey of trust.

Therefore I truthfully must give all the credit and glory to my mighty God for helping me do any of this because as I’ve shared before, I have too many days when I am not capable of doing much and need to carefully use my precious time. This is why I have to republish old posts every so often.

THANK YOU, dear bloggy friends, for all your patience, understanding and support!

I am also thankful for many of you who have become such good friends with me through this blog. I believe that these are divine friendships that only God can orchestrate and I am thankful for each of you in my life..

I don’t know what God has in mind for the future of this blog but I do know that He is the owner and His Holy Spirit guides and leads me in what to write and how to write it.

Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel
and the preaching of Jesus Christ,
according to the revelation of the mystery
which has been kept secret for long ages past,
but now is manifested,
and by the Scriptures of the prophets,
according to the commandment of the eternal God,
has been made known to all the nations,
leading to obedience of faith;
to the only wise God,
through Jesus Christ, be the glory forever. Amen.
—Romans 16:25-27

The Writing Life

Ps45-1--coffee and Bible

 My heart overflows with a good theme;
I address my verses to the King;

my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

—Psalm 45:1

 Over the past few of weeks I have been doing background work on a new teaching devotional series. This week I need to focus on writing the first piece of the series, so I’ve prepared and scheduled a few posts to keep you busy while I’m otherwise engaged.

There will be lots of coffee and Bible time this week, both of which always serve me well! And yes, I am being purposely vague about the topic of this upcoming series because I want to surprise you. I hope you like surprises as much as I do!

Thankful for Bloggy Friends

SoThankfulForYou…..

Compared to most bloggers, I am still a relative newbie. I started this blog a little over two years ago, and although I’ve had to take breaks from blogging every so often, I’m thankful to still be here. More than that, I am so thankful for my bloggy friends who have encouraged and lifted me up in prayer when I needed it most. Sometimes the encourager needs to be encouraged too!

THANK YOU for your faithfulness in hanging around to read what God gives me to share with you! I believe with all my heart that I am here only because of Him, and that He has some kind of plan for my writing.

My heart overflows with a good theme;

I address my verses to the King;

my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

—Psalm 45:1

Difficulty Praying?

Well, friends, I think I charged back into blogging a couple of weeks ago too quickly so I’ve been paying the price since. Seems that’s what I do a lot these days!

STOP-YouReallyGottaStop

This has been the worst summer in my life, and that began early in the spring. The heavy monsoon activity we experience up here in northern Arizona really gets my nauseous migraines going, and that means I can’t do much. In an effort to better monitor my activity level, I think I need to scale back for another month or so and only post once or twice a week. Please forgive me if I don’t reply to your comments here or as quickly as I normally do. I so appreciate all your comments and prayers!

I admit that at times when my pain plus nausea levels are seemingly out of sight, I struggle with how to pray. And then I remember Romans 8:26-27:

In the same way, the Spirit also helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

And let’s not ever forget Verse 28:

GodWorksForTheGood--Rom8-28

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

I am so thankful for that! The Holy Spirit not only knows my heart and intercedes “with groanings” for me when I can’t find the words through the pain, but God also “causes all things to work together … to those who are called according to His purpose.”

How amazing and awesome is that?

Here’s a wonderful quote from Oswald Chambers that is good for all of us to remember and hold close during difficult times.

Take a Break – Part 2

I know I’ve been quiet for a couple of weeks but I haven’t fallen off the face of the earth. Without going into a lot of detail, I’ve been sidelined in a major way by a flareup of my CFIDS in addition to the extremely nauseous migraines that are part and parcel of my monsoon summers.

You know how life just kind of happens? Well, this summer has served to knock me for a loop, to the point where I’ve been sleeping a lot.

I’m sorry I haven’t answered your comments on my blog but you don’t know how blessed I have been knowing that you have taken the time to visit here and leave me a sweet note.

This summer has not been very easy on me but God is still in control and my one true Hope… as He is yours, Beloved. Here is my prayer for all of us:

Rom15-13

As I said last time: Stay tuned, Beloved … I’ll be back before you know it!
